Clarkson's older handbooks and its November 2023 clinical sheets call the course NS 832. Those sheets supply the preceptor rules on this page; your course faculty and Graduate Nursing advisor confirm the current version.
NRS 830 centered on assessment. NRS 832 is the first of the track's two primary healthcare courses, with NRS 844 as the second, which is why the clinic's patient mix matters here as much as the preceptor's credentials.

The clinic this course calls for
Clarkson's November 2023 FNP sheet wanted an MD, DO, PA or NP working in outpatient primary care, or in a rural health clinic, with you seeing patients of every age. Hospitalist hours were excluded, and the sheet turned away aesthetic dermatology as a specialty.
The sheet gave NS 832 no specialty-hour allowance, unlike the three FNP courses after it, so plan all of your hours with primary care preceptors. Up to two preceptors can share the course without written faculty approval, and each clinician whose patients you see, even a partner in the same group, needs a signed agreement.
A pediatric-only office or an adults-only internal medicine practice misses the all-ages test for this course. A family practice or a rural health clinic that sees children and older adults alongside everyone else is the usual fit; the FNP clinical sites guide sets out the setting rules across all five courses.
Visits the course counts
Hours are only half the ledger. The FNP sheet also named visits you had to log, among them ten type 2 diabetes encounters and ten hypertension encounters tied to NS 832 and NS 844, and nothing earned credit until it was recorded in Typhon.
That makes the patient panel part of choosing a preceptor. A clinic with a steady stream of adults managing chronic conditions produces those visits in an ordinary week; a practice built around same-day sick visits can leave you short at the end of the term. Ask about the mix before you file.
Your course faculty hold the current list of required experiences and the counts that go with it. Check it in the first week and track your progress in Typhon as you go, so a gap shows up while there is still time to close it.
Hours, weeks and the midterm mark
Divide the MSN figure by Clarkson's term lengths and NRS 832 asks for 10 hours every week of a fall or spring semester, or 12.5 across the shorter summer. The DNP-level 200 works out near 13 weekly in a long term and near 17 in summer (our own division, not a Clarkson table).

Clarkson's 2021-22 handbook also wanted half the course total logged before midterm. A preceptor with two or three clinic days a week can carry that pace; one who takes students for a single afternoon cannot. The pacing guide covers the rule in full.
One clinic for more than one course
An all-ages family practice that fits NRS 832 often fits NRS 844 as well, since both are primary healthcare courses across the lifespan. You can build the FNP sequence around one home clinic and add pediatric and women's health preceptors for the two courses in between.
Reusing a preceptor still means fresh paperwork: under the November 2023 sheets, a returning preceptor at a returning site still needed a new agreement for the new course and term. After this course, NRS 832 is the only prerequisite the catalog lists for both NRS 840 and NRS 842, so neither has to come first on paper. Your advisor fixes the order on your degree plan, and since Clarkson allows a single clinical course per term, start the next search while this one is still running.

Can I split NRS 832 between two clinics?
Yes, within limits. Clarkson's November 2023 sheets allowed up to two preceptors per clinical course without written faculty approval, each on a signed agreement. Both settings still have to pass the FNP test of all-ages outpatient primary care, and the combined hours count toward the course's 150 or 200.
Can a pediatric practice count toward NRS 832?
Not as your main site. The FNP sheet called for a setting where you see patients of all ages, and it gave NS 832 no specialty-hour allowance. Pediatric practices come into their own in NRS 840, where at least 110 hours belong with a pediatric primary care provider.
Should I take NRS 840 or NRS 842 after NRS 832?
The 2026-27 catalog lists NRS 832 as the prerequisite for both, and neither lists the other, so either can come next on paper. Your Graduate Nursing advisor sets the order on your degree plan. NRS 844 waits until both are finished.
How many diabetes and hypertension visits does NRS 832 need?
The archived November 2023 FNP sheet called for ten of each, diabetes and hypertension, listed against NS 832 and NS 844 and recorded in Typhon. Because Clarkson has since pulled the sheet from its website, ask course faculty in week one for today's counts and whether they apply to each course separately.
Can my NRS 830 preceptor also precept NRS 832?
Yes, if the preceptor fits both courses; an all-ages primary care clinician works for each. The paperwork restarts anyway: a fresh Clinical/Practicum Site & Preceptor Agreement goes in for the new course and term, as Clarkson's 2023 sheets required.
