What to put in the message box
The fields above the box capture who you are, your Clarkson option, your start timing and your city. The box itself is where the detail lives, and a first reply is only as specific as what it has to work with. These points help most:
- The course code and semester, for example
NRS 840in Spring 2027 orNRS 898in Summer 2027. - The hour total for that course and, if it is under way, the hours already signed off.
- Your town, plus the longest commute you would accept to a clinic or unit.
- Any clinicians or offices you approached yourself, with their answers.
- Your employer and unit, so candidates come from outside the department where you work.
- Which Clarkson paperwork date applies to you (Nov. 1, Mar. 1 or Jun. 1 in the 2021-22 handbook) or, for a course already open, its first day.
- Special needs of the course: pediatric or women's health hours, an acute-care-certified NP, therapist hours, or telehealth.
Missing a few of these is fine. Share what you know, and your placement advisor fills the gaps from the Clarkson catalog and your degree plan.
Picking the right program option
The program list follows Clarkson's own option names. MSN students pick FNP, AGACNP or PMHNP; doctoral NP students pick BSN to DNP; certificate students in an NP specialty pick Post-Graduate Certificate (NP); and post-master's DNP students looking for a project mentor pick DNP Post-Graduate. The Nursing Education and Nursing Healthcare Administration options share one entry, since both end in a single-preceptor practicum.
"Not sure yet" suits applicants and first-term students who have not mapped their clinical sequence. The clinical start list shows us your lead time, from four months or more out to a course whose first week has passed. If your clinical course has already started
Pick "My clinical course has started" and name the week you are in. Under Clarkson's 2021-22 graduate handbook the agreement form had to be complete by the close of week one, and hours logged before final approval were not counted, so speed matters. Keep course faculty informed in parallel; what the term can still absorb is their decision. Tell us too whether the site you hoped to use already has an affiliation agreement with Clarkson, since a site with one on file can move much faster.

Preceptors, clinics and your information
NPs, physicians, PAs, educators, nurse leaders and practice managers open to hosting a Clarkson student can write to us here as well. Select "I'm a preceptor (not a student)" and mention your specialty, the state on your license and your town. The page for preceptors describes what hosting a Clarkson student looks like.
Anything you send is handled by our placement desk to answer you and arrange your placement, under our privacy policy. Keep immunization records, health files and similar documents out of the message box; if a specific item is ever needed for a placement, your advisor will ask for it by name.
Questions Clarkson students ask
When should I first reach out about a Clarkson clinical course?
A whole term before it opens is the sweet spot. Clarkson's archived paperwork dates run spring Nov. 1, summer Mar. 1 and fall Jun. 1, and Clarkson warned that a new affiliation agreement can need up to two months on top of that. The sooner we start, the wider the choice of preceptors.
I already have one preceptor. Is it still worth writing?
Often, yes. A second preceptor can carry part of a course, for example the pediatric hours in NRS 840, the women's health hours in NRS 842 or the therapist hours in NRS 856. Clarkson's NP rules permit two preceptors per course before written faculty approval is needed.
Do you help Clarkson students who live outside Nebraska?
Yes, across the 38 states where Clarkson's 2026-27 workbook marks graduate nursing as Meets. Clarkson expects your RN license to be effective where you train and your preceptor to hold a license in that state. The state authorization guide shows each answer.
What if I do not know which clinical course comes next?
Select "Not sure yet" and list your track and the courses behind you. Clarkson's NP tracks move through one clinical course at a time in a fixed order, beginning with NRS 830 after the Graduate Weekend, so your placement advisor can map the rest from the catalog.
Can I ask a question without starting a placement plan?
Of course. The chat and the message box both take questions about Clarkson's clinical rules, course codes and dates, and answers draw on Clarkson's own catalog and published documents. A placement plan begins only when you ask for one, so a quick question commits you to nothing.
