Clarkson College NP clinicals in Alaska
Clarkson College's 2026-27 state workbook answers Meets Requirements for Alaska on its Graduate Nursing tab. That lets a nurse in Anchorage, Fairbanks or Juneau enroll in Clarkson's online FNP, AGACNP or PMHNP track and complete clinical hours at home. Two local facts drive the rest: Alaska has stayed out of the Nurse Licensure Compact, and its nursing board keeps a registration step for APRN students of schools based elsewhere.

Alaska's row in Clarkson's workbook
Nothing in Clarkson's footnotes mentions Alaska. Which row governs you depends on the permanent address you keep in MyCC, and for NP, certificate and DNP students that row says Meets. The RN-BSN column is where Alaska turns negative, so a nurse finishing a bachelor's degree should ask the program first. Tab-by-tab detail sits in the state authorization guide.

Register with the Alaska Board before your first clinical hour
Before any Alaska clinical, the Board of Nursing wants to hear from you, not only from Clarkson. Its regulation 12 AAC 44.460 provides for registering a student whose APRN course of study is based outside Alaska, and the Board's FAQ tells APRN students that the preceptorship application is theirs to file. The document is the APRN Preceptorship Registration, numbered 08-4253, and its fee is non-refundable.
Three attachments go with it. One is proof that your RN license is in good standing. Another shows you are enrolled right now in the APRN program. The third is the preceptorship arrangement the Board approves, signed by Clarkson, the clinical facility, your preceptor and you. Registration runs 12 months at the longest, stops sooner when that preceptorship does, and allows a single renewal.
Clarkson calls for a new site and preceptor agreement per preceptor, course and semester, so switching preceptors may reopen the Alaska file too. Ask the Board how it treats a switch before NRS 830 starts, and flag to Clarkson's Compliance office that Alaska expects a copy of the signed arrangement.
Who can precept you in Alaska, and where students look
Alaska's form describes the preceptor it expects: someone whose APRN or physician licensure, or privilege, is current and unencumbered, whose practice focus resembles yours, and who personally supervises, teaches and evaluates you. PAs are missing from that wording, even though Clarkson's November 2023 sheets allowed them in most states. Look to NPs, MDs and DOs; Clarkson's two-year minimum and the rest are on the preceptor requirements page.
AANP rates Alaska full practice for NPs. Systems an Alaska NP student might approach include Providence Alaska Medical Center, run by Providence as the biggest hospital operator in the state; Anchorage's Alaska Native Medical Center, a tribal health system; HCA Healthcare's Alaska Regional Hospital; Mat-Su Regional Medical Center out in Palmer; and, around Fairbanks, Foundation Health Partners with Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Tanana Valley Clinic. Every one sets its own student process.
Census figures for 2025 give the Anchorage metro some 406,000 residents, Fairbanks-College 94,000 and Juneau 31,600. Outside them, search wider and start earlier.
Your license for Alaska clinicals is Alaska's
Alaska is a non-compact state: a multistate RN license from Nebraska, or from any other member, gives no right to practice on Alaska patients. Sources differ on whether that may change. The Alaska Board's compact page calls House Bill 131 and Senate Bill 124 pending this 2025-2026 session, while NCSBN's map records nothing pending for Alaska. For now, Alaska clinicals rest on an Alaska RN license.
The registration itself would accept a good-standing RN license from another state, yet Clarkson's MSN admission wording ties your license to the state where clinical experience occurs, which here means Alaska's; the RN license guide covers that wording. With no APRN Compact enacted in Alaska, the NP license you seek after graduating will be Alaska-issued as well.

Questions Clarkson students ask
Is Alaska open to Clarkson College's online nurse practitioner programs?
Yes. On the Graduate Nursing tab of the 2026-27 workbook Alaska reads Meets Requirements, an answer that spans the FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP tracks along with the certificates and the DNP. The CRNA tab reads the same; RN-BSN is the lone Does Not Meet. Clarkson reviews these answers at least yearly, so check the current file.
How long is Alaska's APRN student registration good for?
Twelve months at most, ending earlier if the preceptorship does, with one renewal permitted. At Clarkson you take one clinical course at a time, so an MSN NP track's 750 hours reach well beyond a year. Ask the Board early how it wants a renewal or a change of preceptor handled.
Can a physician assistant precept a Clarkson student in Alaska?
Choose an NP, MD or DO. Clarkson's November 2023 sheets let PAs precept everywhere but Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona and Maryland, but Alaska's registration form speaks only of APRN and physician licensure. If you want an exception, get course faculty and the Board to answer in writing before logging hours.
How many times do I travel to Omaha from Alaska?
Once, for Graduate Weekend during NRS 830. For 2026-27 the weekends are Sept. 19-20, Feb. 6-7 and June 5-6. Skip any part and the course is failed, and NRS 830 hours begin only after you pass the skills check-off, so book flights early. Details are in the Graduate Weekend guide.
