Clarkson's 2026-27 state workbook, read for clinical students

What the workbook is, and what it answers

Clarkson's State Authorization and Licensure Information page links an Excel file, State-Auth-AY-26-27.xlsx, and tells readers to use the sheet tabs at the bottom to find their program. The sheet itself prints no date; the file was created Aug. 25, 2026 and last modified Aug. 28, 2026. Its tabs are Graduate Nursing, CRNA, Undergraduate Nursing, RN-BSN, PTA, Radiology and Medical Imaging, and every state row reads Meets Requirements or Does Not Meet Requirements beside a link to that state's licensing board.

The Graduate Nursing tab covers every MSN option, every post-graduate certificate and the DNP with one answer per state. There are no separate rows for FNP, AGACNP or PMHNP.

Strictly, the workbook is a professional licensure disclosure: Clarkson says its NC-SARA membership lets it offer online education in all 50 states, but that "NC-SARA does not cover professional licensure." The catalog is the document that links state rules to clinicals, stating that some state board requirements do not authorize Clarkson graduate nursing preceptorships and clinical placements.

The CRNA and RN-BSN tabs

The CRNA tab repeats the 12 Graduate Nursing refusals and adds North Dakota, for 37 Meets and 13 Does Not Meet. Nurse anesthesia residents train at sites the program itself arranges, so for them the tab speaks mainly to where the degree supports licensure.

The RN-BSN tab is the surprising one. It marks only seven states Meets: Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota. The other 43 read Does Not Meet, even though the RN to BSN is a program for nurses who are already licensed. That is Clarkson's published answer, and an RN to BSN student outside those seven should raise it with the program before planning the NRS 482 practicum; the RN to BSN guide covers that course.

What changed from 2024 to 2026

The Colorado and North Dakota footnotes first appeared in October 2025; the 2024 version carried only the California note. Earlier still, the catalogs from 2018-19 through 2023-24 printed a list of states whose graduate nursing students Clarkson could not enroll, and that list included Arizona, Kentucky, Massachusetts, North Dakota and Wisconsin, all Meets today. Catalogs since 2024-25 name no states at all. The answers move, so check the current file each year.
