Wyoming clinicals for Clarkson College NP students
Clarkson College's 2026-27 workbook marks Wyoming Meets for Graduate Nursing and CRNA, with no footnote, so an NP student living there can train at home. Two Wyoming realities shape the plan: the State Board of Nursing wants written word from the program before a clinical starts in the state, and with only two metro areas, preceptors for five courses have to be lined up well in advance.

The licensing link Clarkson lists for Wyoming is an older state nursing address; the Board now publishes at wsbn.wyo.gov. Because the RN-BSN tab reads Does Not Meet, a Wyoming nurse eyeing Clarkson's RN to BSN should raise that with the program before applying. Wyoming's notice rule for programs based elsewhere
Chapter 6 of the Wyoming Board's rules puts three conditions on a nursing program headquartered in another state:
- Standing: either the state's education department has registered the program or NC-SARA covers it. Clarkson takes part in NC-SARA through Nebraska.
- A letter: graduate and RN to BSN programs skip Board approval, yet each time one of their students is headed for clinical learning inside Wyoming, the program informs the Board in writing, and the Board offers a template for it.
- A contract: the program and the host facility sign a written agreement before the first clinical day, and the program holds a copy for Board review.
All three belong to Clarkson, yet the second and third run on your timeline. A Wyoming clinic new to Clarkson needs a contract from Clarkson's Compliance office, work Clarkson's graduate handbook warned could stretch to two months (see affiliation agreements). Get the facility's exact legal name to your advisor early, with the site and preceptor agreement filed well ahead of the deadlines.
Where Wyoming NP students find preceptors
AANP classes Wyoming as full practice. Geography is the harder part: only two Wyoming cities anchor metropolitan areas, Cheyenne and Casper, with Gillette next in size. Cheyenne's anchor hospital is Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Casper has Banner Wyoming Medical Center, owned by Banner Health out of Arizona. Farther north sit Campbell County Health in Gillette and Sheridan Memorial Hospital, while Laramie has Ivinson Memorial Hospital, affiliated with UCHealth. Every one of them runs its own student process.
Each track feels the map differently. Clarkson's FNP site list includes rural health clinics that see all ages, which suits Wyoming, but plan the pediatric hours in NRS 840 and the women's health hours in NRS 842 first. AGACNP students need acute-care-certified NPs working in hospital units. Clarkson's November 2023 PMHNP sheet allowed up to 300 telehealth hours, with you sitting beside the provider.
Laramie and Cheyenne lie close to the Colorado line. A clinic across it is a Colorado clinical, with a Colorado-licensed preceptor and Clarkson's Colorado footnote attached; read the Colorado guide before counting on one. Research found no Wyoming preceptor incentive.
Licenses, two compacts and the Omaha trip
Wyoming nurses have held compact privileges since the RN compact went live on Jan. 19, 2018, so a multistate RN license from Nebraska or another member state carries you through Wyoming clinical hours (RN license guide). Wyoming lawmakers went further and adopted the APRN Compact; its text is article 3 of chapter 21 in Title 33. It cannot operate before seven states have adopted it, and no official page confirmed when Wyoming acted, so for now a Wyoming NP license covers Wyoming alone.

Questions Clarkson students ask
Must Wyoming's nursing board sign off before my Clarkson clinical starts?
Approval, no; notice, yes. Wyoming exempts post-licensure programs such as the MSN and DNP from Board approval, but Clarkson still owes the Board a letter about your Wyoming clinical and needs a signed facility agreement in place first. Both steps sit with Clarkson, so get your site details to your advisor early.
Has Wyoming joined the APRN Compact?
Yes, on paper: Wyoming's statutes include it. Because the compact needs seven adopting states before it does anything, it changes nothing about licenses yet. For your clinicals, what matters is the RN compact, which covers Wyoming, and a preceptor holding a Wyoming license.
Can I live in Cheyenne and do clinicals in Fort Collins?
A Fort Collins clinical is a Colorado clinical, and Clarkson's workbook attaches a footnote to Colorado about limited authorization for programs that require internships. Ask your program director before planning one. If it is allowed, the preceptor needs a Colorado license, and a multistate RN license would cover you on the Colorado side.
Is Clarkson's RN to BSN available to Wyoming nurses?
Clarkson's 2026-27 workbook marks Wyoming Does Not Meet on the RN-BSN tab even though both graduate tabs read Meets. The RN-BSN answer is Meets in only seven states, so a Wyoming nurse should ask the program how that affects enrollment before sending an application.
