Clarkson College nursing clinicals in Nebraska, the home state
Nebraska is the state Clarkson College designs its programs around, and the 2026-27 state workbook marks it Meets on every nursing tab, the RN-BSN included. Graduate clinicals here need no sign-off from the state itself, because Nebraska leaves post-licensure programs to the school, so Clarkson's agreement and preceptor rules decide what counts. Nebraska in Clarkson's 2026-27 workbook
Clarkson's state authorization page says its licensure programs are "designed to meet the requirements of the state of Nebraska" and of every accrediting body, which makes Nebraska the yardstick for the rest of the workbook. The AY 2026-27 file, last modified Aug. 28, 2026, answers for Nebraska as shown below, and no footnote sits beside any of its rows.

The licensing link Clarkson prints for Nebraska is the DHHS nurse licensing page. Two more state ties sit behind the row. The traditional BSN carries Nebraska State Board of Nursing approval, and Clarkson reaches online students in other states as an NC-SARA participant under the direction of Nebraska's Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education; Nebraska joined SARA through the Midwestern Higher Education Compact on Aug. 11, 2014. That same commission hears appeals under Policy OG-33. The state authorization guide sets Nebraska's row beside the other 49.
No state sign-off: why Clarkson's rules govern here
Nebraska sorts nursing programs according to whether students hold a license yet. A pre-licensure program teaching students in the state has to contact the Board of Nursing and may need its approval. For everything after the first license, DHHS is direct: "The Nebraska Board of Nursing does not regulate post-licensure programs (online or other delivery methods)." Your MSN, certificate or DNP clinical belongs to that second group.
DHHS then hands the school two jobs: setting preceptor qualifications for post-licensure students, and working with clinical facilities to arrange preceptors. At Clarkson those jobs run through the Clinical/Practicum Site & Preceptor Agreement Form that you start and the affiliation agreement the Compliance office confirms, or opens for a new site. The only state duty aimed at the college is faculty licensure: APRN students located in Nebraska must be taught by faculty holding a Nebraska APRN license.
So for a Nebraska clinical, Clarkson's preceptor requirements and each site's own policies decide who can teach you. Physician assistants stay available for FNP and AGACNP courses and for NRS 830, because Clarkson's November 2023 sheets confined their PA limit to Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona and Maryland.
Licensing for a Nebraska clinical, and the compact
Clarkson wants an unencumbered RN license effective where your clinical hours happen, so a Nebraska rotation calls for a license Nebraska recognizes: Nebraska's own, or a multistate one from a fellow compact member. Nebraska has honored multistate licenses since Jan. 19, 2018. A single-state license issued elsewhere stops at its own border.
The compact also works outward. A multistate Nebraska license reaches every bordering state: Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota came in on that January 2018 date, and Kansas followed on July 1, 2019. Your preceptor's license works differently, because it must be issued for the state where the clinic sits; a physician or NP whose only license is Nebraska's can precept you in Omaha but not in Council Bluffs. Advanced practice licenses remain state by state. Nebraska has not enacted the APRN Compact, and although South Dakota and Wyoming have, the compact is not operating. Nurse anesthesia is the one Clarkson program whose policy names the home state: Policy C2 asks residents for an RN license valid in the compact or in both Nebraska and Iowa.
Where NP students in Nebraska look for preceptors
Nebraska has three metropolitan areas. In the 2025 Census estimates the Omaha metro counted 887,424 residents on its Nebraska side, Lincoln 352,081 and Grand Island 78,076. Outside them, Clarkson's November 2023 FNP sheet names rural health clinics as an FNP setting next to outpatient primary care clinics, which keeps small-town practices in play for FNP students anywhere in the state.
The state's large systems each publish their own student process, or none. The table summarizes what each one says about itself; none of it is a Clarkson arrangement.

Each system decides its own requests, and an offer turns into approved hours only through Clarkson's agreement. The Graduate Weekend at 42nd and Dodge
Clarkson's graduate nursing is online apart from one visit for NP students: the Graduate Weekend attached to NRS 830 Advanced Physical Assessment. Students living in Nebraska can generally reach it by car. The 2026-27 weekends fall on Sept. 19-20, 2026, Feb. 6-7, 2027 and Jun. 5-6, 2027, each a Saturday and Sunday.
The campus fills a single block at 42nd and Dodge, 101 S. 42 Street, where Clarkson moved in 1992. It holds the main college building with two simulation labs, a Student Center with a 140-bed residence hall, and the Interprofessional Learning Center, opened in 2019, which holds exam rooms, hospital beds, an operating room and a home setting.
The weekend also starts the clock on your first clinical course. Clarkson's 2021-22 handbook kept NRS 830 hours on hold until you passed the physical assessment sign-off there, and it counted missing any part of the weekend as failing the course. Your NRS 830 preceptor is approved before registration, weeks before you travel, so choose one willing to wait for you. The Graduate Weekend guide has the full rules.
After graduation: becoming a Nebraska NP
The license path changed shape on July 1, 2026. DHHS's Licensure Unit still issues the APRN-NP license, but LB346 dissolved the Board of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses that day and moved its role to the Board of Nursing, whose ten RN seats now include four held by advanced practice nurses.
A new Nebraska NP then works 2,000 hours under a transition-to-practice agreement with a Nebraska physician, osteopathic physician or NP in a related field, and an NP in that supervising role needs 10,000 hours of practice. Prescriptive authority arrives with the license; controlled substances need a federal DEA registration and no state one, and every renewal through 2028 includes opioid-prescribing education. None of it changes Clarkson's clinical hours: 750 in each MSN NP track and 975 in the BSN to DNP. The Nebraska NP practice page takes each rule in turn.

Questions Clarkson students ask
Does Nebraska's Board of Nursing approve Clarkson graduate clinical sites?
No. The Board reviews pre-licensure programs, and DHHS places post-licensure programs, online or otherwise, outside its regulation, with preceptor qualifications left to the school. Approval of a Nebraska site comes from Clarkson instead: your agreement form, an affiliation agreement through the Compliance office where the site needs one, and course faculty sign-off before any hours begin.
I live in Nebraska. Can my Clarkson clinical be in Iowa or Kansas?
Clarkson's workbook marks both states Meets for Graduate Nursing, and a multistate Nebraska RN license is effective in each. The preceptor, though, needs a license from the clinic's state, and both states add expectations of their own, covered on the Iowa and Kansas pages. Confirm the plan with your Graduate Nursing advisor before a preceptor signs.
Is the Nebraska abuse registry check part of Clarkson's requirements?
It can be. Clarkson's health and safety list includes a Nebraska Child/Adult Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Check among its possible items, with the background check, drug test, immunizations, BLS and license verification, and your program's package decides which apply. Clarkson tracks them in Qualified First/Verified, which replaced CastleBranch in mid-2026, and students out of compliance cannot attend clinical.
Must I hold a Nebraska APRN license during the Clarkson program?
No. During the program Clarkson asks for an RN license effective where you train. Nebraska's APRN licensure rule for teaching is a duty on the faculty instructing Nebraska-based APRN students. Your own APRN license comes after graduation and national certification, and your first 2,000 hours of practice then run under a transition-to-practice agreement.
Can a Nebraska RN to BSN student do the practicum at work?
Possibly. Nebraska is among the seven states Clarkson's RN-BSN tab marks Meets, and the catalog lets NRS 482 clinical work take place at the student's workplace with faculty approval, provided the course competencies can be met. The program page adds that practicum hours can be done in or near your hometown. The hour count is unpublished, so the program is the place to ask.
