My Clinical Exchange for Clarkson students: when you need it
My Clinical Exchange is the request platform several Midwest health systems use for student placements. Clarkson College's 2025 Graduate Nursing Resources page tied it to CHI Health, UnityPoint, Avera and Sanford, and Children's Nebraska takes MSN and DNP applications through it. A request can let you register, but hours wait for a named preceptor and a completed agreement.

What the platform does for a Clarkson student
The catalog rule behind every route still applies: the preceptor and clinical site are approved before you register. My Clinical Exchange, written myClinicalExchange or mCE on many system pages, is one way to reach that point when the site is a health system that handles student placements centrally. Instead of arranging a preceptor with a clinic yourself, you file a request in the system's portal, and the system chooses whether to place you, and where.
Clarkson's current pages still name it. The live Qualified First/Verified FAQ lists My Clinical Exchange first among the "Clinical Placement Platforms" students may hold accounts with, next to Clinicians Nexus and Exxat, and the 2025-26 catalog's fee list includes My Clinical Exchange items. The graduate detail below comes from an archived copy, from July 2025, of the graduate nursing resources page Clarkson has since taken down.
Which systems route requests through it
Clarkson's 2025 page introduced its list as the most frequently used sites in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. Here is what each source says, with Nebraska Medicine added for contrast because it uses its own system.

Outside those three states, Clarkson's documents say nothing about which systems use the platform. If the system nearest you does, its student placement page will say so.
The annual registration
Students pay for their own My Clinical Exchange account, and Clarkson's 2025 page said so directly: "My Clinical Exchange requires an annual registration fee. This fee will be paid by the student." Because the registration runs by the year, check that it is current before each new request, particularly if your clinical courses stretch across more than one academic year.
The 2025-26 catalog also lists a "My CE" item under all programs and a My Clinical Exchange onboarding item for an undergraduate course. Current amounts are on Clarkson's tuition and fees page and on the platform itself.
How a request fits the DocuSign agreement
The two run in sequence. Clarkson's 2021 DocuSign instructions say the agreement cannot be started without the preceptor's information, and that a student using a placement site should submit the request to the advisor or "within the site's portal such as myClinicalExchange." The request comes first and the agreement follows, in whatever form your advisor directs.
Clarkson's 2021-22 handbook built that gap into registration. Students with placement requests submitted in My Clinical Exchange were one of two groups allowed to register without a submitted agreement form. The handbook's other rules still held: a finished form within week one, and no hours ahead of final approval, both covered on the approval before registration page.

A request is not a placement
Every system decides for itself. Children's Nebraska says preceptors are assigned based on availability, CHI put its own employees first according to Clarkson's 2025 page, and Nebraska Medicine's old request form, hosted by Clarkson, warned applicants that filing it would not by itself place them. Children's also supports only certain advanced practice students, and FNP and AGACNP are not among them.
So a request should never be your only plan. Keep a direct search going with preceptors outside the system, so that a declined or unanswered request close to the agreement date still leaves you a way forward. The health-system requests page compares every route side by side.
Children's Nebraska denies any application submitted after its deadline, so a spring 2027 request had to be in by Oct. 1, 2026.

Questions Clarkson students ask
Does Nebraska Medicine use My Clinical Exchange?
No. Nebraska Medicine takes placement applications through its own online process, which now runs on its Workday student placement site. It asks students to apply rather than approach preceptors directly, says to allow at least a month for the process, and publishes its own NP application windows for each term.
Can FNP students request Children's Nebraska through My Clinical Exchange?
On its advanced practice page, Children's Nebraska names five kinds of APRN students it takes: CRNA, NNP, PNP-AC, PNP and PMHNP students. That list leaves out FNP and AGACNP, so FNP students generally look elsewhere for the pediatric primary care hours in NRS 840.
Do I need My Clinical Exchange if I found my own preceptor at a private clinic?
Not for that clinic. The platform matters when the site is a health system that takes requests through it. A preceptor you arranged directly goes straight onto the site and preceptor agreement, following the steps your Graduate Nursing advisor gives you.
Is the My Clinical Exchange registration a one-time payment?
No. Clarkson's 2025 Graduate Nursing Resources page described it as an annual registration paid by the student. If your clinical courses span more than one year, confirm the account is current before each new request so an expired registration does not hold up a submission.
Does a My Clinical Exchange request replace the DocuSign form?
No. In the 2021-22 handbook a pending request let you register without a submitted agreement, but the agreement still had to close within the first week of classes, and no hours counted before final approval. The request gets you to a preceptor; the agreement makes that preceptor official.
