Georgia and Clarkson College: The Graduate Nursing Answer
Clarkson College's 2026-27 state workbook marks Georgia Does Not Meet for Graduate Nursing and for CRNA. Clarkson's online MSN, certificate and DNP programs are therefore not a route to Georgia licensure, and Georgia sites cannot host their clinical hours. The answer matters to Atlanta's nurses and just as much to Clarkson students in South Carolina, Florida and North Carolina who live near the Georgia line.

There is no footnote and no track-level exception: one Graduate Nursing answer covers every graduate option. Clarkson's catalog frames the category broadly, saying certain state board requirements keep it from authorizing graduate preceptorships and clinical placements. Georgia has sat there for years: the catalogs from 2018-19 through 2023-24 counted it among the states barred from Clarkson graduate nursing enrollment. Georgia's rules look open. Clarkson's answer still governs
Georgia's Board takes a hands-off line with programs from elsewhere. Post-licensure programs, APRN ones among them, sit outside its approval and regulation, so an outside MSN or NP program asks no Board permission before its students train in Georgia. The conditions fall on licenses instead. Students need a Georgia or multistate license, faculty and preceptors teaching them from Georgia (on site or remotely) meet the same test, and APRN clinical teaching must be given by someone holding Georgia APRN authorization.
Why, then, does Clarkson say Does Not Meet? The workbook gives no reason. What counts for you is that Clarkson's determination, not anyone's reading of Georgia's rules, decides what Clarkson will approve. Treat Georgia as closed to Clarkson graduate clinicals while the workbook reads this way.
AANP puts Georgia in its most limited category, restricted practice: an NP there practices under a physician's delegation or supervision, with tight limits on Schedule II drugs. The state's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program, reworked by HB 144 and requiring yearly registration from 2026, rewards preceptors only for students enrolled in Georgia programs.

Augusta is the only split that opens a door. A clinic on the South Carolina side can work for a Clarkson student whose home address is in South Carolina; one across the line in Georgia cannot. Around Columbus and Chattanooga, both sides are closed. Big names change nothing: a practice owned by Emory Healthcare or Grady Health System, by Wellstar Health System, Northside Hospital or Piedmont Healthcare, has a Georgia address, and the address is what Clarkson reads.
Licensing, and what each reader should do
Georgia has honored multistate RN licenses since Jan. 19, 2018; the APRN Compact has no Georgia enactment. All five neighbors also belong to the RN compact, which lets one multistate license cross those lines, and the RN license guide explains what Clarkson asks of it.
A Georgia RN interested in Clarkson should talk with a program director before applying, as Clarkson's own page asks of residents in states where a program lacks authorization. A Clarkson student offered a job or travel contract in Georgia should remember that the clinic's state decides where hours count, and that moving a permanent address there puts financial aid, and even completing the degree, at risk. Clarkson allows one-semester leaves within a seven-year limit (see progression rules); weigh each option with your program director first.

Can I do Clarkson NP clinicals in Atlanta?
Not while Clarkson's 2026-27 workbook reads Does Not Meet for Georgia. The answer covers every graduate track, and Clarkson's catalog links state board requirements to its graduate preceptorships and placements. Ask a Clarkson program director about any Georgia plan before you contact a preceptor.
Georgia's board does not regulate out-of-state MSN programs. Why is Georgia closed?
Clarkson has not published its reasoning. Georgia leaves post-licensure programs unregulated but attaches license conditions to students, faculty and preceptors, including a Georgia APRN authorization for anyone teaching APRN students clinically. Either way, Clarkson applies its workbook to its own students.
I live in South Carolina and work in Augusta. Where can my clinicals be?
On the South Carolina side. The Augusta metro spans two states, and only South Carolina reads Meets in Clarkson's workbook, so your employer's Georgia hospital is out even though you work there. Clarkson's workplace rule would also send you to a department other than your own at any employer site.
Can my preceptor claim Georgia's preceptor tax credit?
No. Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program is written for preceptors of students at Georgia's own medical, dental, NP and PA schools, so a Clarkson rotation would not count even if Georgia were open. The Department of Revenue's page still shows older terms than the revised program the AHEC describes.
