Yes, you can. Clarkson College's 2026-27 state workbook marks Indiana Meets Requirements for Graduate Nursing, so the online MSN, certificate and DNP tracks work from an Indiana address, with clinicals near home once Clarkson approves each preceptor and site. Indiana's board leaves out-of-state graduate programs to their schools; the planning turns on your license and on which side of a state line a would-be preceptor works.

Indiana carries no footnote, and Clarkson directs Indiana licensing questions to the Professional Licensing Agency's nursing page. Meets opens the program to you; each rotation still waits on Clarkson's sign-off for preceptor and site before you register, as the site and preceptor agreement page describes.

Who oversees what: Indiana's board and Clarkson's approvals
The Indiana State Board of Nursing operates through the Professional Licensing Agency, and its program accreditation covers in-state schools leading to an initial RN or LPN license. Graduate programs and RN-BSN programs, in the Board's own words, get no review from it, and the state's eligibility rule for programs is framed around RN and PN training before licensure (848 IAC 1-2-4). Research turned up no filing an out-of-state graduate program has to make before an Indiana clinical.
So the approvals that decide an Indiana rotation are Clarkson's. You locate the preceptor and site (find-your-own-preceptor guide), and Clarkson's advisor, Compliance office and course faculty clear both before a single hour counts.
Collaborative practice and the Indiana preceptor search
AANP's label for Indiana is reduced practice: a physician is party to a regulated collaborative agreement that governs one or more parts of each NP's practice. In a search, that often means an NP preceptor who works beside a named physician. Clarkson's agreement form covers each clinician you treat patients alongside, practice partners too, so both names may go on it.
Most Indiana searches start in greater Indianapolis, which the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate puts past 2.2 million residents, or around Fort Wayne, near 466,000. Big NP employers range from Parkview Health and Franciscan Health to the IU Health system, with Ascension St. Vincent and Community Health Network also in the mix; each keeps its own gate for students, and none is described here as accepting Clarkson students. Research recorded no Indiana tax credit or incentive for NP preceptors.
Near Chicago or Louisville? Check the state line first
Two metros spill over Indiana's borders. About 729,000 Hoosiers live in the Indiana slice of Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, and about 281,000 in the Indiana part of Louisville/Jefferson County. A nearby preceptor may be licensed across the line, and then that state's row and rules apply.
- Clarkson's workbook lists Illinois as Meets, yet Illinois remains outside the Nurse Licensure Compact with no pending bill on NCSBN's map, so an Indiana multistate license carries no practice rights across that line. Hours there call for an Illinois RN license of your own and a preceptor licensed in Illinois (Illinois guide).
- Kentucky, a compact state from the first implementation date in January 2018, also reads Meets, so your multistate license works on the Kentucky side too. Its board expects nurse preceptors inside Kentucky to hold Kentucky licensure, APRN included (Kentucky guide).
Licensing for Indiana clinicals
Your own RN license must be unencumbered and effective in the clinical's state (RN license guide). Indiana's compact membership dates to mid-2020 (July 1, 2020 on NCSBN's table). An Indiana-issued multistate license, held by someone who lives here, reaches Indiana rotations plus any other compact state Clarkson clears, while a single-state Indiana license stays inside Indiana.
Your preceptor needs Indiana licensure for Indiana hours. Indiana's legislature has left the APRN Compact unenacted, so the NP license waiting after graduation comes from one state at a time.

Can I do Clarkson College FNP clinicals in Indiana?
Yes, after Clarkson signs off on the preceptor and site. The FNP setting is outpatient primary care serving every age group; NRS 840 adds a pediatric minimum (110 of its 160 MSN hours) and NRS 842 a women's health minimum (120 of 160). The FNP program page covers each course.
If I move out of Indiana mid-program, does Clarkson's answer change?
It can. Policy OG-33 takes your state from MyCC's permanent address field. All four states bordering Indiana read Meets, so a move next door keeps graduate nursing open but may change your license needs. A move to one of the 12 Does Not Meet states, Tennessee for example, may jeopardize financial aid or program completion, so speak with your program director first.
Who can be my preceptor in Indiana: physicians, PAs, NPs?
All three can, depending on your track. Clarkson's November 2023 sheets let FNP students work with MDs, DOs, PAs and NPs, and AGACNP students with MDs, DOs, PAs and acute-care-certified NPs. PMHNP courses after NRS 830 call for a psychiatrist or PMHNP. Clarkson's PA ban names Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona and Maryland only, so Indiana PAs qualify wherever the track allows them; the rest is on who cannot precept you.
Do Indiana preceptors get a state incentive for teaching a Clarkson student?
Research found no Indiana tax credit or incentive for NP preceptors, whatever the student's school. What helps a busy Indiana clinician say yes is a tidy request: dates, weekly hours, the course focus and agreement details ready, which is how we present every Clarkson student.
