Nevada and Clarkson College's graduate nursing answer
In Clarkson College's 2026-27 workbook, Nevada reads Does Not Meet Requirements on all three nursing tabs that matter here: Graduate Nursing, CRNA and RN-BSN. The state also stands outside the nurse compact and wants Board approval before any internet-based program teaches clinically inside its borders. This guide is for Clarkson students thinking about Las Vegas or Reno, students in Arizona, Utah, Idaho or California near the line, and Nevada RNs sizing up online NP programs.

For Nevada, Clarkson's licensing link points to the Nevada State Board of Nursing. Nevada was already on the roster of states in Clarkson's 2018-19 to 2023-24 catalogs whose residents the college said it could not enroll in graduate nursing. Catalogs since 2024-25 drop the roster and simply warn that some state board requirements keep Clarkson graduate preceptorships and placements out; the workbook explainer holds the current list.
How Nevada treats online programs
Nevada's rule on programs from elsewhere, NAC 632.703, is written broadly. A school delivering any piece of its curriculum inside Nevada registers with the Board through a report, backed by evidence of accreditation or approval and yearly school reports. Distance programs need the Board's yes before their students do clinical work in Nevada, and anyone teaching those students on Nevada soil must carry a Nevada license. The text never restricts itself to entry-level programs.
The Board's approvals tell the rest of the story. On its Sept. 1, 2026 roster, every out-of-state school cleared for clinical-only activity in Nevada is an associate or bachelor's pre-licensure program. Older Board practice decisions add that students giving hands-on care are practicing nursing and need Nevada licensure, and that a preceptor must be on site, working under faculty direction, and oversee two students or fewer.
Las Vegas, Reno and the states around them
By Census estimates, roughly 2.4 million Nevadans live in the Las Vegas area (Henderson and North Las Vegas included), about 579,000 in and around Reno, and fewer than 60,000 in the Carson City metro. In the south, nurses know UMC, the academic medical center for Southern Nevada, alongside hospital groups with national parents: Sunrise Health System belongs to HCA Healthcare, while a subsidiary of Pennsylvania's Universal Health Services operates The Valley Health System. Dignity Health operates in both Las Vegas and Henderson, and Reno's entry on the list is Renown Health. Under the 2026-27 workbook, a Clarkson clinical at any of them would sit in a Does Not Meet state.
Clarkson students just over the border have more room. Arizona, Utah, Idaho and California all read Meets. Arizona carries Clarkson's November 2023 rule that PAs cannot precept NP students there, and California has a footnote about NC-SARA coverage, so read the Arizona and California guides before the search begins.
Licensing: Nevada wants its own
Nevada remains a non-member of the Nurse Licensure Compact, with no pending bill that would change it. Your multistate license from Nebraska or Arizona stops at the state line, and Nevada's Board treats hands-on care of anyone physically in Nevada as practice requiring its own license. Nevada has passed no APRN Compact law either.
AANP classes Nevada as full practice with a prescribing condition for newer NPs: Schedule II drugs wait until they have practiced clinically for two years or 2,000 hours, unless a physician has approved a protocol they work under. Questions Clarkson students ask
Can my Nebraska multistate RN license cover clinicals in Nevada?
No. Nevada never joined the compact, which leaves every member state's multistate license powerless there, and its Board requires a Nevada license for hands-on care of Nevada patients. Even a Nevada license would leave Clarkson's answer where it is: the 2026-27 workbook marks Nevada Does Not Meet for Graduate Nursing.
I live in Arizona near the Nevada line. Could my clinicals be in Nevada?
Build your plan around Arizona. Nevada is Does Not Meet in Clarkson's workbook, and Nevada's Board must approve an online program before it gives clinical instruction there; its current list of approved outside programs holds only pre-licensure schools. In Arizona, find a preceptor licensed in Arizona, and remember that Clarkson's sheets bar PAs from precepting its NP students in that state.
Has Nevada always been closed to Clarkson graduate nursing students?
As far back as the research reaches, yes. Six catalog editions, 2018-19 to 2023-24, named Nevada among the excluded states. The October 2024 and October 2025 disclosures left its row alone, and the current workbook repeats Does Not Meet for graduate tracks, nurse anesthesia and the RN to BSN.
Does Nevada's Board approval rule apply only to pre-licensure schools?
Its text is not limited that way. The regulation covers nursing programs conducting any portion of their curriculum in Nevada and requires Board approval before a distance program's students train clinically there, whatever the degree level. It is the Board's roster of approved outside programs, dated Sept. 1, 2026, that currently lists pre-licensure schools alone.
