Clarkson College NP clinicals in Utah
Utah is a Meets state for Graduate Nursing in Clarkson College's 2026-27 workbook. It is also a state that writes down what a nursing program from elsewhere owes before its students train locally: Utah Administrative Code rule R156-31b-609 lists the conditions, adds a yearly report due Aug. 1, and treats graduate and pre-licensure programs alike.

Utah in Clarkson's workbook
Utah has no footnote. The Utah row governs when your MyCC permanent address is in Utah; an RN to BSN student there should take that tab's Does Not Meet answer to the program before enrolling. Two neighbors read differently: Nevada is Does Not Meet for graduate nursing, and Arizona is one of four states where Clarkson's November 2023 sheets bar PAs from precepting.

What Utah requires of a program from another state
Utah puts the burden on the school. Its nursing board and licensing division must both be satisfied before students from another state's program start clinical or practicum work in Utah agencies. The program shows that its home-state board approves it and that an accrediting body recognized by the federal Education Department accredits it.
The program's faculty must be its own employees, be attached to a college or university, and satisfy what its accreditor and its home state demand of faculty; anyone who supervises students face to face must be licensed, in good standing, by Utah or by a compact state. It also needs a written approach to selecting sites and preceptors and to overseeing faculty.
The paperwork recurs. Each year, by Aug. 1, the program gives the Board a head count of students it placed in Utah facilities, vouches for the licensure of the faculty and preceptors who work with them in person, and verifies current accreditation.
These filings are Clarkson's, and its public pages are silent on them. Clarkson does list ACEN continuing accreditation for its MSN, certificates and DNP. Before a Utah site signs, ask your Graduate Nursing advisor whether Clarkson's Utah paperwork is current.
Preceptors: Utah's rule is wider than Clarkson's
For out-of-state programs, Utah accepts preceptors in good standing on either a Utah license or one from any Nurse Licensure Compact party state. Clarkson's November 2023 sheets set a narrower test: a current license from the clinical's own state. Aim for a Utah-licensed NP, physician or PA, let course faculty rule on anyone else, and check Clarkson's full list in its preceptor requirements.
AANP puts Utah in its full-practice group. Among the large systems are University of Utah Health, the HCA-owned MountainStar Healthcare and Intermountain Health; an NP student approaches each through its own student process. Ogden (about 673,000) and Provo-Orem-Lehi (about 773,000) flank the Salt Lake City-Murray metro, home to roughly 1.31 million by the 2025 Census estimate. St. George, near 214,000, lies far south by the Nevada line, so keep its rotations on the Utah side.
Licensing, and Utah's early APRN Compact vote
Utah's compact membership dates from Jan. 19, 2018, so a Utah multistate RN license covers your clinicals at home and travels to other compact states. Utah made the APRN Compact law on March 24, 2022, an early move, yet the compact stays dormant until a seventh state signs on. Until then NP licenses remain state by state, which is why both Clarkson's preceptor rule and your own license after graduation point to Utah. The RN license guide gives Clarkson's wording.

Can I take Clarkson College's online FNP from Utah?
Yes. Utah reads Meets on the Graduate Nursing tab of the 2026-27 workbook, a single answer for every NP track, certificate and DNP option. The MSN NP tracks carry 750 clinical hours over five courses taken one at a time, and Clarkson must approve each preceptor and site before you register.
Does Utah need anything from Clarkson before my clinicals?
It does. Under R156-31b-609, Utah's Division and Board must be satisfied with the program first, and a report follows every Aug. 1. That work belongs to Clarkson, and its public pages do not show whether it is done, so ask your Graduate Nursing advisor before a Utah site commits.
Could a preceptor licensed in another compact state work for me in Utah?
On Utah's side, yes, for out-of-state programs. Clarkson's 2023 sheets looked for a license from your clinical state, though, which makes a Utah-licensed preceptor the safer pick. If a strong candidate practices on another state's license, put the question to course faculty before the agreement is filed.
Utah enacted the APRN Compact; does it help me yet?
Not yet. The 2022 law made Utah an early adopter, but nothing changes until the count of enacting states reaches seven. Your preceptor's NP license, and yours after graduation, stay state-issued, so plan on Utah's.
