The five kinds of site on Clarkson's list

The PMHNP sheet names the settings where psychiatric hours can happen. Each gives you a different slice of practice.

• Inpatient psychiatric facilities: admissions, stabilization and discharge planning with patients at their most unwell.
• Outpatient psychiatric facilities: evaluations and medication management over months, a dependable source of adult hours.
• Psychiatric emergency or crisis units: rapid assessment, safety decisions and short stays.
• Outpatient counseling centers: the usual home of the therapist hours in NRS 856.
• Outpatient community health centers: accepted when your preceptor there is a mental health provider, and often a source of mixed ages.

The sheet sets no minimum per setting, so one well-chosen outpatient practice can carry most of the track. An inpatient or crisis block in a later course adds acuity, and it fits inside the two-preceptor limit alongside a main outpatient preceptor.

Telehealth: allowed, capped at 300 hours

Clarkson's PMHNP sheet allowed telehealth in the psychiatric clinicals up to 300 hours, on one condition: you are present with the provider. It is optional, and the sheet ruled it out entirely in NRS 830.

For scale, the four psychiatric courses add up to 650 hours in the MSN and certificate and 850 in the BSN to DNP, so the ceiling covers less than half of either. Keep a running telehealth total and ask faculty how the current sheet counts it across the courses. A preceptor whose practice is largely virtual can still work if in-person days make up the balance.

Health systems that name PMHNP students

Clarkson's former Graduate Nursing Resources page listed the systems its students used most in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota, each with its own request route that the student starts. For PMHNP students one stands out: PMHNP appears on Children's Nebraska's list of supported APRN student programs. Children's takes MSN and DNP applications through myClinicalExchange, with a spring deadline of Oct. 1, a summer deadline of Feb. 1 and a fall deadline of June 1, matches them about three months before the term and refuses late ones. Preceptors are assigned by availability, and Children's own team members come first.

Nebraska Medicine, described by Clarkson as its educational partner, accepts nurse practitioner requests only through its online application, asks students not to approach preceptors themselves and needs a month or more. It opens a window before each term: Sept. 1-Oct. 1 ahead of spring, Jan. 1-Feb. 1 ahead of summer, Apr. 1-May 1 ahead of fall.
