Clarkson College NP students living in Idaho
Idaho is marked Meets Requirements on the Graduate Nursing tab of Clarkson College's 2026-27 state workbook. Idaho's own rules then work in a student's favor: a matriculated APRN student holding an Idaho RN license or compact privilege may work as an APRN during training when that work is built into the curriculum. The real planning risk lies at the borders, since Oregon and Nevada are closed to Clarkson graduate nursing.

Idaho on Clarkson's state workbook
Clarkson prints no footnote beside Idaho. The row that binds you belongs to the state of your MyCC permanent address, so an Idaho address brings the Meets answer with it. Only the RN-BSN tab says otherwise for Idaho; if that is your program, get the program's view before you start. The state authorization guide covers the full workbook.

What Idaho's rules say about APRN students from other states
Section 54-1406 of the Idaho Code and the Board's rule at IDAPA 24.34.01.150 govern nursing education offered inside Idaho, and neither carries a clause on clinical rotations run by a school from another state. The Board's web page does have a section titled for out-of-state and online programs, which points schools located elsewhere to its licensing staff about requirements. That contact is Clarkson's to make; your part is to confirm with your advisor that Idaho is squared away.
Two provisions help once you start. IDAPA 24.34.01.100, subsection 12.a, lets a nurse enrolled in a nationally accredited APRN program practice as an APRN when the work is an integral part of that program, provided the nurse holds a current Idaho RN license or privilege. A separate statute, section 54-1412, exempts students of approved programs performing functions incident to their formal instruction.
In a policy the Board adopted on April 10, 2024 (HP-BON-Education 1), it set a floor for clinical preceptors in every nursing program: a license no lower than the role the student is training for. Faculty who lead APRN role and population courses need Idaho APRN licensure under the same policy, which is Clarkson's staffing question rather than yours.
Idaho preceptors and where NP students look
Clarkson's November 2023 sheets accepted MDs, DOs, NPs and PAs outside four named states, and Idaho is not among the four. Read beside Idaho's 2024 policy, the surest Idaho preceptor for an NP student is an NP or a physician; the policy is silent on how it treats a PA, so ask course faculty before a rotation depends on one. AANP lists Idaho as full practice. Around Boise, a metro of about 864,000 by 2025 Census estimates, NP students can look at the Saint Alphonsus and St. Luke's health systems; up north, Kootenai Health serves the Coeur d'Alene area of roughly 192,000. East and south sit Idaho Falls, near 174,000 residents, and Twin Falls, near 124,000. Each system runs its own student process.
Borders to respect from Boise, Twin Falls and Coeur d'Alene
Two of Idaho's neighbors read Does Not Meet for Clarkson graduate nursing: Oregon on the west and Nevada to the south. A clinic just over either line sits outside Clarkson's graduate map, however close it is to home.
North Idaho nurses who look west to Spokane meet a different wall. Washington requires its Board of Nursing to approve out-of-state distance programs before any placement and authorizes approved placements only for Washington residents, with exceptions judged case by case; the Washington guide explains. Montana, Wyoming and Utah all read Meets.
Licensing for Idaho clinicals
The Nurse Licensure Compact has applied in Idaho since Jan. 19, 2018, so an Idaho-issued multistate RN license works for clinicals in Idaho and in the other compact states Clarkson's workbook opens. No APRN Compact law exists in Idaho, so a preceptor's NP license, and yours after graduation, is issued state by state, and Clarkson's sheets tie the preceptor's license to the clinical's state. Does Clarkson College take FNP students who live in Idaho?
Yes. The 2026-27 workbook's Graduate Nursing tab reads Meets for Idaho, and that answer applies to every Clarkson NP track, certificate and DNP option alike. Clarkson approves each preceptor and site before registration, and the permanent address in MyCC decides which state's row applies to you.
Can an Idaho PA serve as my Clarkson preceptor?
Clarkson's 2023 sheets barred PA preceptors only in Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona and Maryland, so Clarkson's rules alone would allow one in Idaho. Idaho's 2024 education policy adds a license floor tied to the student's future role, and it never spells out where PAs fall. Get course faculty's answer in writing first.
Could I do my Clarkson clinicals in Spokane or across the Oregon line?
Oregon is off the table: Clarkson's workbook marks it Does Not Meet for graduate nursing. Spokane sits in a Meets state, yet Washington first approves any out-of-state program and then keeps its placements for Washington residents, with exceptions decided case by case. Does Idaho's board need to approve Clarkson before my clinicals?
Idaho's rules set no specific clinical-placement approval for schools based elsewhere. For requirements, the Board's site sends such programs to its licensing staff, a step for Clarkson's Compliance office. Ask your Graduate Nursing advisor to confirm before a site signs.
