Clarkson College clinicals in Iowa
Iowa gets a Meets answer on every nursing tab of Clarkson College's 2026-27 state workbook, including the RN-BSN, which only seven states receive. Graduate clinicals here follow Clarkson's agreement plus a few Iowa conditions: an RN license Iowa accepts, a preceptor licensed for Iowa practice and a written clinical contract. Council Bluffs puts Iowa clinics just across the river from Omaha.

Iowa's checklist for a school based in Nebraska
Schools headquartered outside Iowa get no approval from its board, which publishes a checklist for them instead; most items land on Clarkson. Iowa Code 152.1 matters too: its student exemption reaches only people holding no nursing license, which puts a licensed RN like you under Iowa's licensing rules.

ARNP preceptors in a full practice state
Iowa titles its nurse practitioners ARNPs, and on AANP's map it is a full practice state. Chapter 616 of the Board's rules, on ARNP program preceptorships, wants the student's own role and population focus reflected in whoever supplies most precepted hours, an ARNP or a physician licensed where they work, under written agreements reviewed yearly.
Clarkson's standards stack on top: two years of experience, practice that fits the course, and acute care certification for any NP teaching an AGACNP course. The preceptor requirements page lists every rule, and the questions below cover physician assistants.
Iowa also rewards the preceptor. Sixty or more precepted hours in an organized program earn an Iowa nurse 6 contact hours toward renewal, once the school documents them.
Council Bluffs, Des Moines and other Iowa markets
Council Bluffs is the Iowa half of the Omaha metro, home to roughly 122,000 of its people once the Nebraska side is subtracted from the 2025 Census total (our arithmetic). Methodist Health System operates there as well as in Omaha and Fremont, with no current NP student process published; the Omaha preceptor guide covers searching on both banks.

Clarkson's 2025 resources page sent UnityPoint requests through a centralized myClinicalExchange process and required Iowa Mandatory Reporter training for anyone placed with CHI; the health system requests page compares those routes. University of Iowa Health Care, like MercyOne, sets its own student terms. The Davenport metro's Illinois side is a separate case, because Illinois is not a compact member.
Licensing for an Iowa clinical
Iowa began honoring multistate licenses on Jan. 19, 2018, the same day as Nebraska, so a multistate RN license issued by Nebraska, or by any fellow member, is effective at an Iowa clinic; a single-state license from anywhere else is not. With no APRN Compact enacted in Iowa, an ARNP who precepts you there holds an Iowa-issued license. Clarkson's nurse anesthesia Policy C2 names the state outright, accepting either a compact RN license or one valid in Nebraska and Iowa alike. The RN license guide has the whole rule.

Questions Clarkson students ask
Does Iowa have to approve Clarkson College before I train there?
No Iowa approval step exists for schools based in other states. Iowa wants them cleared by the Bureau of Iowa College Aid, working within Iowa law and signing proper clinical contracts, all of which is Clarkson's work. With Iowa marked Meets for Graduate Nursing, you supply a license Iowa accepts and a preceptor licensed for Iowa.
Can an Iowa physician assistant precept my Clarkson FNP course?
Clarkson's November 2023 sheets limited PA preceptors only in Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona and Maryland, so Iowa is open. Because chapter 616 leans on ARNPs and physicians for most precepted hours, check with your advisor before a PA carries a whole course. In PMHNP, a PA could precept only NRS 830.
I live in Iowa. Can I train in Omaha instead?
Nebraska is Meets too, and a multistate Iowa RN license works there, since both states joined the compact in January 2018. The Omaha preceptor must hold a Nebraska license, and the metro's large systems run their own application windows. The Nebraska page covers the home state.
Is Clarkson's RN to BSN open to nurses living in Iowa?
Yes: Clarkson's RN-BSN tab marks Iowa Meets, one of seven states. The catalog lets NRS 482 clinical work happen where you are employed, once faculty approve and if the course competencies can be met, and the RN to BSN guide covers the practicum. Its hour count is unpublished, so confirm it with the program.
