Oklahoma Students at Clarkson College: Clinicals and Preceptors
Oklahoma is one of the few states Clarkson College's 2026-27 workbook clears on all three nursing tabs: Graduate Nursing, CRNA and RN-BSN. NP students there meet two extra conditions, one set by Clarkson, which rules out physician assistant preceptors in Oklahoma, and one set by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing for nurses studying in another state's APRN program.

A clean sweep in Clarkson's workbook
In the workbook file dated Aug. 28, 2026, every nursing tab reads Meets Requirements for Oklahoma, no footnote is attached, and the licensing contact Clarkson lists is the Oklahoma Board of Nursing's site.

The RN-BSN line is the rare one. That tab says yes to just seven states, Oklahoma and Louisiana plus Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and the two Dakotas, so an Oklahoma RN can take Clarkson's online RN to BSN from home, NRS 482 practicum included; the RN to BSN guide covers that course. The Board's terms for an out-of-state APRN student
Oklahoma's Board makes out-of-state pre-licensure programs ask its permission first, but it handles RNs in out-of-state APRN programs differently. Under OAC 485:10-5-12(c), you may train in Oklahoma clinics under a preceptor without first getting the Board's permission, provided each of these conditions holds:
- Your RN license carries no encumbrance and covers practice in Oklahoma.
- The faculty member responsible for your clinical work is licensed in Oklahoma, without restriction, at the level taught or higher.
- Clarkson's program lines up with what the Board expects of APRN education.
The last two are Clarkson's to answer, and your Graduate Nursing advisor is the person to ask if a site raises them. The first is yours. Oklahoma started issuing multistate licenses when the compact took effect there on Jan. 19, 2018, and its Board describes multistate holders working across member states with no added license, so check that yours is multistate before you count on it (RN license guide). Oklahoma has not enacted the APRN Compact.
Who can precept you in Oklahoma
Not a physician assistant. Clarkson's November 2023 FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP sheets group Oklahoma with Florida, Arizona and Maryland as the states where a PA may not precept a Clarkson student. MDs, DOs and nurse practitioners remain, each held to the rules on who cannot precept you.
Oklahoma's own law shapes the NP side. AANP counts it among restricted states: an Oklahoma NP needs a documented physician-supervision statement behind their prescribing until 6,240 hours are logged, and Schedule II prescriptions stay off an NP's pad. None of that stops an NP from teaching you, and the supervising physician may be a second candidate.
Oklahoma's preceptor tax credit, and where students search
Oklahoma rewards preceptors through its income tax. HB 3351 of 2024 created the credit, and the state's Health Care Workforce Training Commission runs it. Eligible preceptors are primary care clinicians working in Oklahoma under an Oklahoma license, whether physician, PA or APRN, who teach APRN, PA or medical students. A qualifying rotation totals 160 hours, the same length as Clarkson's NRS 840 or NRS 862; the credit is nonrefundable, carries forward five years, covers tax years 2026 through 2035 and goes first come, first served. A preceptor should ask the Commission whether a Clarkson rotation counts.
Most searches start in Oklahoma City or Tulsa; Lawton and Enid are far smaller metros. OU Health serves as the University of Oklahoma's academic health system. INTEGRIS Health is large too, as is SSM Health St. Anthony, the St. Louis system's Oklahoma arm, and Saint Francis Health System and Hillcrest HealthCare System add two more options. Each keeps its own student channel, and this page presents none of them as a Clarkson site.

Questions Clarkson students ask
Can a PA precept a Clarkson NP student in Oklahoma?
No, according to Clarkson's November 2023 rotation sheets, which name Oklahoma among four states where PAs are ruled out as preceptors for FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP students alike. Oklahoma's tax credit includes PAs, but that is state tax policy, not Clarkson's preceptor rule. Ask course faculty whether the current handbook keeps the limit.
Can I take Clarkson's RN to BSN while living in Oklahoma?
Yes. Oklahoma is one of seven states where the workbook's RN-BSN tab reads Meets. The NRS 482 practicum is set in a population health environment, and Clarkson's 2025-26 catalog allows clinical work at your own workplace with faculty approval when the competencies can be met. Confirm the practicum plan with the program before the term starts.
Will my Kansas or Texas RN license work for an Oklahoma clinical?
If it is a multistate license, generally yes: Kansas and Texas are compact states like Oklahoma, and the multistate privilege is what lets you practice there as an RN. A single-state license does not travel. Your preceptor is a different matter and needs an Oklahoma license under Clarkson's rule.
Must Clarkson file anything with Oklahoma's Board before I train there?
Not as a separate filing, if the three conditions in OAC 485:10-5-12(c) hold. The prior-permission route in that rule applies to schools preparing nurses for a first license. If a site's education office asks, pass the question to your Graduate Nursing advisor.
