Texas in Clarkson's 2026-27 workbook
The workbook Clarkson posted as a file dated Aug. 28, 2026 answers Texas with no footnote and names the Texas Board of Nursing as the licensing contact.

One Graduate Nursing answer covers every track, so FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP students in Texas stand on the same footing. The RN-BSN tab, which clears only seven states, leaves Texas out, and an RN to BSN applicant here should settle that with the program first. Across the borders, Oklahoma and New Mexico also read Meets for graduate nursing; Louisiana and Arkansas read Does Not Meet.
What the Texas Board asks of an out-of-state school
Out-of-state nursing schools do need the Texas Board's approval before they run clinical learning in Texas, SARA membership notwithstanding. Look at which schools, though: vocational and professional RN programs that prepare students for a first license, whether diploma, ADN, BSN or entry-level master's. Guideline 3.1.3 (its current revision is dated May 1, 2026) describes that process, and post-licensure RN-BSN study and graduate APRN education fall outside those out-of-state approval rules.
Chapter 219, the Board's rulebook for APRN education, governs programs seeking Texas approval; programs holding national accreditation are not on that approval path at all. Clarkson's MSN, certificates and DNP carry ACEN accreditation. If a Texas site's education office still asks for proof of Board approval, pass the request to your Graduate Nursing advisor.
Precepting in a restricted-practice state
AANP places Texas among restricted states, because Texas ties NPs to physicians: NPs work under a physician's delegation and supervision, the written protocol between them lasts the NP's entire career, and Schedule II prescribing depends on the setting. So behind any Texas NP you approach stands a delegating physician who is also eligible to precept you, and Clarkson accepts two preceptors in one course, more only with written faculty approval.
Clarkson's PA ban covers four states, and Texas is not one, so a Texas PA two years into practice qualifies for FNP and AGACNP courses. The psychiatric track is stricter: past NRS 830, only a psychiatrist or a PMHNP will do. The complete list lives on the preceptor requirements page.
Direct rewards for NP preceptors are thin in Texas. Education Code 54.356 offers a tuition exemption, but only to RNs precepting students of public pre-licensure programs. Research turned up no Texas tax credit aimed at NP preceptors, and the Nursing Shortage Reduction Program's grants go to nursing schools rather than to the clinicians who teach.
Big metros, long drives and your license
Four Texas metros each top two and a half million people. Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, with close to 8.5 million residents, is the largest; the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands area is close behind, San Antonio-New Braunfels ranks third and Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos fourth. UT Southwestern Medical Center and Houston Methodist are major employers. Baylor Scott & White Health is another, as is Texas Health Resources, and in San Antonio there is University Health. Each takes students through its own process, and none appears here as a Clarkson site.
Your RN license must be effective in Texas (RN license guide). Multistate licenses have been valid in Texas since Jan. 19, 2018, so a compact state's multistate license is accepted, while any preceptor must be licensed by Texas. The APRN Compact has no Texas enactment.

Questions Clarkson students ask
Are PAs allowed as Clarkson preceptors in Texas?
Yes, in the FNP and AGACNP tracks. Clarkson's November 2023 sheets count PAs as acceptable preceptors everywhere except Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona and Maryland. For a PMHNP student a PA fits NRS 830 alone. Whatever the track, the PA needs a Texas license and two or more years in practice.
I live in East Texas near Louisiana. Can I train across the state line?
Keep your clinicals in Texas. Clarkson's workbook gives Louisiana a Does Not Meet answer on the graduate tab, and Arkansas the same, so a site on the other side of the line runs into that answer. A Texas site close to home avoids the problem; if you are tempted by one across the border, ask your Graduate Nursing advisor before you contact it.
How often do Texas students travel to Omaha?
Once. NP students come to campus for Graduate Weekend during NRS 830, where the physical assessment skills are checked off; in 2026-27 the weekends fall in mid-September, early February and early June, and the Graduate Weekend page has the dates. The clinical hours themselves, 750 in an MSN track or 975 in the BSN to DNP, are logged with preceptors in Texas.

The RN-BSN tab of the 2026-27 workbook gives Texas a Does Not Meet, as it does 42 other states, even though the graduate tab reads Meets. Ask the program how it applies to you before you apply.
